My kids love to talk, they get it from me and I encourage them to always express themselves even if they think what they have to say can be offensive or mistaken. Whatever you need to say you have the freedom of speech to do so. I know sometimes kids may feel worried about speaking freely thinking their thoughts or words could get them in trouble. We speak about everything under the moon, sun and stars. I encourage parents to talk more with their children, open the floor up for discussion. It could be once a day or once a week (mine never shut up ) I just listen in amazement at the things little people talk about. Sometimes they are wrong and it's a learning experience, sometimes they're on point and teach me a thing or two. Get your kids into the habit of expression and speech.

A great way to break the ice is saying hey, what's on your mind? Let's talk about how you feel or the things happening in your world from your perspective today? Some children won't say much out of fear so to those you give them a writing exercise.. Hey, I want you to write down the things that go through your mind on a weekly or daily basis without worrying about being in trouble or offensive because your thoughts and feelings are valid.
